Volunteer Opportunity: Adopt a Trail in Littleton!
The Town of Littleton needs your help to keep our local trails well-maintained and safe for everyone.
You have probably noticed recently, that some of Littleton’s conservation areas have a lot of grass, weeds, and various invasive plants showing up everywhere. The effects of climate change are real. Warmer and wetter spring and summer months and milder winters have caused a marked increase in trailside vegetation encroachment. Due to the fact that the Town does not have the budget or manpower to perform regular trail mowing at our conservation areas, we are appealing to the public for assistance.
Littleton’s Volunteer Land Stewards do a wonderful job maintaining our trails but they could use your help with some mowing or weed whacking. We are seeking volunteers to adopt a trail to mow or weed whack on a regular basis. If you have a favorite trail and the capability to perform this type of work, we will be happy to hear from you. Your assistance in performing these duties will be greatly appreciated.
By adopting just one trail, or even a portion of a trail, you can make a significant impact on our community and ensure that our trails remain accessible and enjoyable for all hikers.
Responsibilities:

- Reporting any significant issues or maintenance needs

- Cloverdale Conservation Area
- Cobb Memorial Forest
- Hartwell Conservation Area
- Long Lake Park
- Mary Shepherd Conservation Land – trail across meadow
- Mill Hill
- Newtown Hill Conservation Land– trail across field at Chapin Community Garden
- Russell Street trail to Hartwell Conservation Area
- Sprong Trail connecting to Newtown Hill
- Williams Trails connecting to Newtown HillThis is a great opportunity for individuals, families, or local contractors to contribute to the beauty and safety of our town’s natural spaces. Whether you can commit to a few hours a month or more frequently, your help is invaluable.
