Walden’s Shore – Henry David Thoreau and 19th-century Science
Professor Thorson will explore themes of his latest book, Walden’s Shore, the origin of a lake called Walden Pond, the lake’s behavior as part of a larger natural system, and how Henry David Thoreau’s understandings of both influenced his book Walden. Thoreau’s talk of rock “reality,” “former worlds,” and the “living earth” are more than metaphors. They reveal that Thoreau saw Earth as a single coherent system that cycled endlessly through time. Copies of Thorson’s books will be available for signing and inscription.
