This Saturday is the Annual “Global BIG Day” for birding! Join LCT members and some of Littleton’s best birders as we cover Long Lake Park across several habitats looking for warblers, vireos, owls, swallows, raptors, corvids and more! This year’s effort can be done as a 4-hour or a 2-hour effort (7-11, 7-9, or 9-11). Those wishing to bird early or for the whole segment should meet at the end of Colonial Drive at 7 am. Those wishing to bird later can join us at 9 am at the Middlesex & Queen trailhead. We will end by 11 AM when birders can either return to where they started, or end at the Harwood Avenue lot where we will carpool back to your vehicle, if necessary.

Long Lake Park is one of Littleton’s best patches: perfect for beginner birders and experienced twitchers alike, with several ideal habitats to maximize the number of species possible: water/shoreline, wetland, forest, field, and edge habitats.

All ages and skill levels are welcome.

Bring: Binoculars, sturdy shoes & long pants. Light colored pants are best!

In prior years groups have seen Great Horned Owls & owlets, Barred Owls & owlets, Brown Thrasher, Hooded Warbler, American Redstart, Black-throated Blue & Black-throated Green Warblers, Northern Parula, Indigo Bunting, Baltimore Orioles, Red-eyed Vireos, Common Ravens, Great Blue Herons, multiple duck & shorebirds, 3-5 types of swallows & swifts, American Woodcocks, Bald Eagles, several hawk species & more! Registration is not necessary, but if you have questions or want to let us know when you’ll join, please email: dneild@littletonconservationtrust.org. Happy Birding!
