This year’s Hidden Treasures is a month-long series of events. This one is a collaboration of Littleton Conservation Trust, Freedoms Way and AMC. It is a family friendly walk.
This is an AMC event, please register on their website: http://activities.outdoors.org/search/index.cfm/action/details/id/95683 (contact the event coordinator listed in the description).
The Williams Land and Newtown Hill area, great for wildlife viewing, is former farmland now forested with interconnected trails. Newtown Hill is a Littleton town highpoint with water tower and eastward views over Fort Pond and the tops of Boston sky scrappers.
This easy walk is 3 miles and is in partnership with AMC’s Family program. We will meet at 9:45 am and expect to end around 1 pm. Don MacIver, President, Littleton Conservation Trust, will lead this hike. The hike is also part of the Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area (FWNHA) Hidden Treasures series.
We will view current stables, abandoned farm equipment and stone walls, rolling hay fields, wildlife habitat including duck and bat boxes, ant hills, and a birding viewing area with bench and platform. Additionally we will see several large glacial rocks scattered about. The 150 acre interconnected Williams Land and Newtown Hill share a wildlife pond – Doleful Pond.
